“Breast feeding is threatened and efforts are needed to protect and promote breast feeding. Infant formulas are not safe or sterile” That was said in the workshops organized by “International Baby Food Action Network/ Arab World (IAW) & East Mediterranean Regional Office WHO/ (EMRO) On 10 December 2006 entitiled : Babies before Business: 25 years of the International Code This meeting discussed various topics concerned with Breastfeeding and discussed guidelines for complementary feeding. Many speakers presented talks as breast feeding in the Arab World, From protecting breastfeeding to protecting infant and young child, breast feeding as a component in IMCI, Breastfeeding and complementary feeding, Infant feeding in emergencies, HIV and infant feeding, Contaminants in infant foods. There were 4 workshops Workshop 1: Maternity Protection at Work Workshop 2: Sponsorship, PPPs and Conflict of interest Workshop 3: Infant feeding in emergencies Workshop 4: Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives as well as field visits for participants to visit health care facilities, shops and check mass media for Code violations of breast milk substitutes.
