assalamu alaikom , pls explain flocculation test that are used to detect reagin ABs in syphillis, what is floccualation and what is difference between it and agglutination. thanks a lot.

Also known as ( VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) Test )

It is the commonest test used for screening and monitoring of the disease activity after treatment. Quantitative titre is measured for the latter purpose.
It is a nonspecific test and biological false positive may occur. Confirmation with specific tests is therefore necessary.

This is what I remember.

i know it's used for monitoring response to treatment but what is the basis of test and what is meant by flocculation?
